Next time take out the jewelery and put it somewhere such as in your wallet or cell phone case that will go in the little bucket that they X-ray. When you get inside go to the bathroom and insert the jewelery, but after only 3 months and stretching so quickly you might still have a problem getting the ring back in.
I've had my PA for about a year and half. I started at 10g and am only at 4g. I can take it out for 5 hours and get it back in.
4g Prince Albert
00g Both ear lobes
12g Septum.

I've taken my PA out for hours at a time and have never had a problem with the hole closing or shrinking.
Once I had to have my PA out for several months. The hole shrunk by several guages, but it did not close up. With slow stretching over about a week, I got the hole back to the size it was before removing the PA.

I have had my 2g, and now 0g, out over night. It might be a bit tighter in the morning, but that is it. When heading into an airport, or federal building, where I don't want to be delayed, I put it in my briefcase and find the john after I am through security. I have to say I did get a pretty good chuckle from one older security guard at one building...but that was it.
Amazing what can be hidden underneath a wool suit, crisp shirt and silk tie, isn't it?

My job requires me to pass through metal detectors on a daily basis.I have never set one off.....BUT!!!....it could happen and so I got some of the acrylic barbells, straights and curved in assorted colors. Since Friday is always Hawaiian shirt day I change to a color that does not clash with my shirt. So,pick up a few acrylics for yer "tackle box" for them times when you might be in doubt, and save them ex$$pensive holes you got in yer peen and go through the metal detectors with confidence.

I've got a 00g PA, and I can leave the ring out as long as I want. When I put the ring back in, a 0g slides in easily, and the 00g ring slips in without trouble after a few hours. In general, I'd say that how long you can leave it out depends on (a) how long you've had the PA, and (b) what size gauge you are.
For airports and government buildings, I usually wear an acrylic ring. If you don't like that idea, get an insertion taper and a ring that is one size smaller than you currently wear. After taking your current jewelry out for a few hours, use the taper, but put in the smaller gauge jewelry. Let it rest a day or so before reinserting your current size jewelry.
That should work fine for a healed piercing.

My PA experience matches ernie banks. My PA is at 0 guage and I can leave it out as long as I want to. The longest has been two weeks. It takes very little tme to get back to 0 guage. I also have acrylic CBR's for those times that I don't want metal in it.

interesting. I'll surely be putting some non-metallic ring in next time I have to take it out. I am still surprised at how quickly it closed up.
The good news is I managed to re-open the hole (as I said the fistula never closed up, it was just down to like 30 gauge) and just the other day I managed to stretch to 2g without any problem. 2g is great, but I won't be going any larger than this. The step from 2g to 0g looks huge, and 0g is well beyond anything I'd want. I like the 2g quite a lot thus far. I'm so glad I was able to salvage my shrunken PA, though it was not without discomfort.
