Hey everyone. I am considering a lip ring. I have what I hope are reasonable questions. -Does anybody have recommendations for a retainer that actually works? (meaning it stays in place relatively well and is not too obvious) If I do get my lip pierced I know I will eventually have to hide it, probably for future unspecified work and/or encounters with conservative relatives. I've been trying to do some research, but a lot of people seem to be unhappy with labret-style retainers in general. -This may be a silly question, but does liquid ever come through the piercing hole when you drink? Part of me can't really believe that this wouldn't happen, given that there is a hole in the lip and all, but I need someone's actual input. -Has anybody experienced any problems/dissatisfaction with kissing with a (healed) lip ring and/or kissing someone else with a lip ring? Does the ring get ever in the way? Thanks! I really appreciate the help and advice.

I think that it would be almost impossible to hide a lip ring. Even the retainer can be obvious. I have no experience kissing or being kissed with a lip ring. One of the WWE wrestlers has a lip ring and getting banged around it does not seem to bother him so you kissing someone with the ring should not bother you.

I've been trying to do some research, but a lot of people seem to be unhappy with labret-style retainers in general. My little trick for labret retainers is to insert the retainer into my piercing without the o-ring and cut the post of the retainer (I buy cheap acrylic ones, as my piercing is two years old and can handle acrylic) so that no excess is showing on the outside of my lip. It keeps the fistula open on the inside without being overly obvious. With a retainer or without, though, the hole is still there and visible.sugarhighfive wrote:-This may be a silly question, but does liquid ever come through the piercing hole when you drink? In my experience, with a 14g lip piercing, I have never had liquid pass through my piericng. At larger gauges it very well may, but I have no plans to stretch my piercing to find out.sugarhighfive wrote:-Has anybody experienced any problems/dissatisfaction with kissing with a (healed) lip ring and/or kissing someone else with a lip ring? Does the ring get ever in the way? I love the sensation of kissing with my lip jewelry in (circular barbell). It can be very erotic and stimulating for you as well as the other person. The way the metal and lips feel on skin is amazing. I also love being kissed by someone with a lip ring, as well. The only real "issue" is when the other person also wears ring-style jewelry in their piercing and its on the side opposite yours. When you're face-to-face, the piercings face eachother, and can get caught. Its not really a bother, its just a cute, funny thing that happens sometimes.
If you have any further questions, feel free to send me a private message and I'll respond as quickly as I can.
Have fun and happy healing!

cant comment on your first question, i dont use retainers simply cus i dont need to.
as for water passing through, ive noticed that sometimes (and i mean once in a blue moon) the outside can get a tiny little bit damp. But you'd never see it or notice it if you werent touching it and it doesnt happend frequently enough to be a problem / noticeable in the slightest.
as for kissing. OOFT. kissing someone with a lip piercing is one of my favourite things. i love it. its the best feeling ever. as for feedback from men kissing me, ive had a few that were a bit worried about kissing me with my lip done but then done so and were all "OMG KISS ME ALL THE TIME"
ive not heard any bad reports kiss wise. it doesnt get in the way for anything further than kissing either.

-Does anybody have recommendations for a retainer that actually works? I personally just use bioplast jewelry with the TINY clear jems. It's been fine for every job I've had with them and a LOT of people don't even notice them.
-This may be a silly question, but does liquid ever come through the piercing hole when you drink? Not when I drink, but now that they're healed and stretched a tiny bit, sometimes they "leak" a little if I am swishing with mouthwash, but that's the only time.
-Has anybody experienced any problems/dissatisfaction with kissing with a (healed) lip ring and/or kissing someone else with a lip ring? Does the ring get ever in the way? I have rings and I've made out with someone with a vertical labret bar and nothing bad came of it. Ring to ring there's nothing to get caught on, same with stud to stud, but ring to stud can sometimes have issues, but if both are healed it's not really painful or anything like that, just a slight tug if you manage to hook them.
I know I'm awesome...but at least I'm modest about it

Kissing someone with a lip ring is a total turn on! The only issues I had was when I had smaller gauge septum and wore a pincher in it. Sometimes the top lip piercing of said kissee would get caught, haha!
