These are all things which can leave behind little bits/fibers which can easily become lodged inside the piercing, encapsulated by tissue and can fester for a very long time...mimicking infection and generally causing havoc until it finally gets dislodged and you have instant relief.
I had a very sore nipple that looked similar to this when I washed with a bodywash containing those "microbeads" and one got inside the piercing. It took me a few days to realize what had happened and it's because of reading many many experiences here. Who would have thought something so simple could be the problem. Of course the wrong jewelry in the piercing can create it's own set of problems. I began my SSS and hot compresses also and my nipple is better than ever.
