Shoulder pain...updated

Postby Ms.Jen » Thu Nov 05, 2009 3:31 pm

So some of you may remember about a month ago I posted about some shoulder pain I was having. I finally went to the doctor and she said I have shoulder infringement. Which means the tendons are wearing out. She put me on prednisone for 10 days. Then I have to take daypro for 30 days. She did tell me that if my pain does not get better in 2-3 days on the prednisone I have to schedule an MRI to see if my rotator cuff is torn. If there is a tear then depending on the size they will either do cortisone shots or surgery.

I am not happy about all the meds cuz the side effects seem a bit scary, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do. She also told me I can not pick kids up anymore at work. I laughed. How can I not? If they are hurt or sad I have to pick them up. She gave me a note to have limited duty, but I can not promise anything. If I have a teacher in my room with me then it is possible, but alone I can not do it.

Oh and super good news. I got topomax again!!! They have generic so I pay 8 bucks for 30 pills instead of 60!!

Wish me luck this pain goes away.

The nasty side effects of prednisone is mainly in long-term cases. For now, enjoy the pred and its anti-inflammatory properties. It was a godsend when I got a nasty case of poison ivy AND sun poisoning last summer.

Thanks for explaining that to me Primal. Makes me feel better. I will take my first dose in a few after I eat some breakfast. My mom is a nurse and I talked to her last night too. I told her I was nervous cuz I did not want to feel shaky and hyper. She told me she just took it for hives at a higher dose and it did not make her feel like that at all.

Hopefully this work. Otherwise Ill be doing the next step.

I hate the prednisone. It gave me a HORRIBLE migraine today. I may not take it again. I can't walk around with migraines for the next week. Sure I have imitrex but I won't be able to refill if I run out. Blah

Is Prednisone the one that tastes/smells like skunk? Either way, my brother was on it off and on for years for various things, (including off-label use to cause weight gain when ge got down to like 80lbs after one of the times he had cancer).

Are you sure your migraine was caused by the Prednisone and not just a coincidence? I'd say keep taking it and if it continues to call your doctor.

What we think: Prime Minister in Training

Postby Ms.Jen » Sat Nov 07, 2009 8:16 am

I was fine until I took it. Within an hour or so I had one. So I am pretty sure it was from the meds.

It also made me super hungry where I ate all friggen day. She told me that would happen but it was HORRIBLE how hungry I was. She said some people gain a tom of weight on it even when on it for a short time.

I dunno Ihave to think about it. I can't go around with migraines for a week.

Yeah prednisone is good for that(weight gain.) Hope it's not causing the migraines. I don't blame you one bit for not taking it if it's causing them. Hope it all works out either way!

Thanks Pharm. Seriously it was horrible how hungry it made me yesterday. Never in my life have I wanted to eat all day like that. Im fat enough I don't need to gain more weight lol.

If the shoulder pain is that bad give it another try, and see if you get another migraine. Like Sarah said, it might've been coincidence.

As to the eating.. would you rather deal with hunger, or the shoulder pain? I'd think it'd be better simply to let yourself be hungry and get used to that. You get used to it to where it's not a terrible feeling.

I took it again and have another headache so I think it is not a coincidence.

Honestly I would rather deal with the shoulder pain then the hunger. Cuz I end up eating way too much. I have a weight issue as it is and don't need more weight gain. Ill see how the shoulder is tomorrow. My doc said if it is still painful after 2 days then to stop taking it, because it means there is a tear and not the swelling she is hoping.
