Sea Salt Soaks: The Key to Happy Healing

Postby primal » Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:49 pm

If you do want to use mouthwash, there are a few without alcohol. Biotene and Tech 2000 are the preferred mouthwashes.

I would just like to add my experience thus far with sea salt soaks. I have had several piercings and been told to wash with anti-bacterial soap once a day in the shower, blah, blah, blah. When I had my tragus pierced I got the H2O spray. Swore by it. I swear it helped to heal my piercing twice as fast. I just had my nipples pierced 2 weeks ago and they are doing fabulous. Twice a day SSS is like a miracle. I can not say enough good things about it. If you're not using this toward helping your healing, you're crazy!!!!

H2Ocean is just expensive salt water. The salt in the water is only part of what gives SSS beneficial properties. The most important, and most beneficial, aspect of SSS is the moist heat. H2Ocean doesn't give you any of that.

Yeah, but I think it worked better than just washing it in the shower. Plus, it was summer so if I went swimming in the pool, I brought along my bottle and sprayed my tragus when I got out of the pool. I mean, then I didn't even hear of SSS so this was like awesome for me, but now I would (and WILL) tell everyone I know who gets pierced the benefits of the SSS AND the Satin Soap (LOVE IT!!). u:Love

any tips on how to properly do a SSS for a helix piercing?

i got it done a few days ago, and can't seem to figure out a good technique for getting the entire piercing in the cup.

my piercer told me to clean with satin soap and do a SSS (soap at night, SSS in the morning), are there any specifics about how often, or is it just once a day?

and is it normal to have a bit of swelling still? (its been 5 days) i really don't want it to be infected.

thanks in advance

Cartilage takes up to and over a year to heal so swelling for the first week or 2 is perfectly normal. Plus, it will do random things like get sore for no reason just to screw with you.

How I soak my ear:
Put the mix in a mug.
Sit on the toilet lid and tip head sideways into cup on counter.
Remove head after 5-10 min, rinse with clear water, dry with a paper towel.

You said "In general, if its not suitable to sprinkle on your food, its probably not suitable for a SSS."
So does that mean that I can use just regular Morton table salt for this? u:?

You didn't read the entire post, did you? You do not want iodized salt or salt with anticaking (free flow) compounds. Morton salt has both, so its not recommended for SSS.

Get sea salt without any additives.

Just wanted to add that if I am lazy and don't do some type of regular soaking and end up with pissy piercings a hot soak is all it takes to make them happy once again.

Hi everyone
I have tried twice to get a navel piercing, and twice it ejected. Could the SSS be what I'm missing? My piercer said to use the antibacterial soap daily, nothing else. I should add that I have a toddler who has jumped in my lap about 1000 times and sliiiid down my belly. I often wonder if that snagged the piercing and caused the ejection. Any pearls of wisdom are welcome! u:Moon
