I got my rook done 3 days ago and I was really surprised because I wasn't having any pain at all. I've been doing the usual for cleaning, sea salt soaks twice a day. Well, last night it started hurting quite a bit...to the point where it was making me feel slightly nauseous. I took some Tylenol, and put an icepack on my ear...this helped a little. The pain was so bad last night I had trouble sleeping. I woke up this morning and the pain is just as severe, and I also have this strange feeling in my ear...kinda like I cant hear very well out of the ear with the piercing. I'm very worried because I know hearing loss is possible with a rook piercing, but I may just be overacting...but I'm not overreacting about the pain, it's really bad. My ear looks fine, I don't notice any swelling, no redness, no blood or discharge. I'm going to continue with my sea salt soaks, but should I be worried about something serious, and is there anything I can do about this pain? u:(

Update: I just cleaned my piercing, and some things have changed since last night, my ear is extremely hot, there is redness, and there's a dark brownish discharge. I've concluded it's infected, but my questions still stand, do I need to worry about hearing loss, and what can I do about this pain?

Hearing loss isn't a concern unless you ignore it. You need to see a doctor though.
And just so you know, I'd be concerned that the infection was created when you were pierced because of the time frame. It takes about 72 hours for signs of infection to show up. Make sure you let your Piercer know what happens.

Is the piercer you go to a reputable piercer who is professional or just one you chose on a whim?? Sounds like an infection from the procedure, as John said

^ What those 2 said.
And where on earth did you find out that hearing loss is a risk with a rook piercing? Only as much as any other ear piercing, which would be only if you ignored the infection and it somehow travelled inward. This is a very small pretty much negligible risk.

Go to a doctor, get on antibiotics, LEAVE THE JEWELLERY IN!!!
Some doctors say you are best taking jewellery out of an infected piercing, but this can trap the infection in and cause ickyness... so, leave jewellery in to act as a drain.
