Captive bead very difficult to open

Postby owenblaylock » Thu Mar 09, 2017 2:08 pm

I'm working my way up to a 00 gauge, and I've run into a problem.

I purchased a 0 gauge captive bead ring, anticipating my next stretch.

I've discovered that I cannot open the ring, working as hard as I can with the correct ring opening pliers.

So my question is, how do I get this ring open? Are there ratcheting pliers or compound pliers which reduce the manual force required?

Related question: Some companies sell a captive ring which has a spring-loaded snap-in ball. Does anyone have experience with these? Do the snap-in balls stay in place during sex? (It's a non-starter if it cannot be worn during intercourse.)

In the meantime, I'm looking at switching to a curved barbell. It's easy enough to unscrew a ball.

I bought the largest ring opening pliers through a very reputable online retailer, they were supposed to work up to 0 gauge, I could not get them to work on 2 gauge 1/2" or 4 gauge 9/16" both in Titanium and I had to return them. I have some smaller ring opening pliers I have used on 6 gauge 5/8" surgical stainless, I think anything bigger than 6 needs a Professional to do the job u:? The smaller the diameter makes it a little more difficult also IMO.
