Male Earrings/Employment

Postby piercingcraze » Sun Mar 13, 2016 8:45 am

I'm about to start a new job working as an auto adjuster for GEICO. I received the employee handbook. It says no visible facial piercings and absolutely no visible tattoos. Two earrings per ear are allowed but each local office may have slightly different dress codes. It does not specify about gender but says my dress should be business casual. Do you guys think it would be alright to wear small diamonds in each ear to work or should I leave them out?

If they are healed, I'd leave them out until you can assess the situation. Then ease them in - one at a time and see the reaction. People react better if they are eased in to the thing you want to do.

I would wear them and remove if necessary. If the handbook indicates that "2 earrings per ear" are acceptable, they legally cannot tell you not to just because you're male (could be a form of gender discrimination).

Of course, I wouldn't push the issue myself if they said no at the local level, I just wouldn't wear them to work.
Life is short; enjoy your pain.

It would be nice to not have to constantly insert and remove my earrings but I definitely would hate for them to effect my employment or opportunities for career advancement!

Thanks BlondCharley and Jwiggles for answering. If anyone else has any experience with Geico, auto insurance positions, or just general feedback I'd love a few more suggestions!

OMG! Geico? Try something like this: Image

If asked, just tell them handbook says up to two per ear, and ask if the commissary offers the green guy in earrings so you "can really rock the company's logos." Don't they also do the hump-day camel?

Tombstone I like the second silver gecko the best but I don't think that's the look I want! I'm not sure that's masculine enough. It would be funny lol.

I think I would leave them out to start with and then put them in, let us know how you make out. It's a shame we need to worry about things like this.

Freakboi I'll post an update once I find out. My first day on the job isn't until mid April so it will be a few weeks.

I really enjoy my piercings but I'll probably end up leaving them out while at work. Unless once I meet my colleagues, they sport any earrings. I already know facial jewelry is a no-no. No visible tattoos either. No retainers are allowed either except in a tongue piercing so long as the top is flat. My only glimpse of hope is the employee book states 2 earrings per ear are allowed but doesn't specify gender.

My idea is what manager is going to broach the ear ring subject over wearing the company symbol?

If they did, what would they put in your employee folder, that you were being too gung-ho on the company and your new job?

If you want to be successful, you minimize your risks. But, you enjoy them.

Personally, my style of intro is a bit more bold ... I'd go for modest ear rings and get a fresh haircut. But, not everyone is as foolhearty as I am, either. http://www.bebiviral.com/article/15-cra ... ko-Haircut
